12 July – 10 September 2017, 10.00 am – 5.00 pm Tue-Sat, and Sunday 10th September 10.00 am – 5.00 pm

Swindon Museum and Art Gallery, Bath Road

This Portrait Therapy exhibition aims to show how portraiture can be used to aid individuals in rediscovering and celebrating their personal identity, even when facing their greatest challenges. This exhibition of portraits features 29 painted portraits, 80 collages and 6 sculptures which were all collaboratively designed with 7 patients who were living with severe illness.

Visitors (both young and old) will be encouraged to draw their own self-portraits during the exhibition with the provision of a self-portrait ‘art station’. These creations will subsequently be added to a ‘wall of portraiture’ on display at the gallery. Young children will also be offered further learning activities & ways to interact with the portraits by means of a Portrait Trail activity sheet. So please come along and have a go!

Come along and see Susan demonstrating portrait painting in oils. Bring your children along to complete a ‘selfie’ drawing that can be added to our “Selfie Wall” in the art gallery, and try our portrait trail where you can have a go at being a “Portrait Detective” and find the hidden objects in the portraits.
